Dior-For his summer collection Christian Dior wanted materials "where the light, the colors of the flowers and the sun blend and play together." He called upon Mme. Andree Brossin de Mere who, as a liaison between the Paris designers and the Swiss fabric manufacturers, has done more for Swiss textiles than anyone else alive. Inspired by the exotically complex colors of mounted butterflies which she found in the Paris Flea Market; Mme. Brossin de Mere then turned to the Bazaar's photographer, Brassai. For weeks he photographed the wings of many butterflies, finally achieved the strange and delicate pattern shown below, which the Swiss silk makers spun into one of the most beautiful iridescent fabrics of the recent Paris collections. It illuminates Dior’s fluid and lovely dress, which he calls Papillon Blue.
