They Say Some People Don't Even Dig.This Stuff!
"Good morning. I'm the editor of Current Poetry Magazine. Did you wish to see me?"
"Yes. I'm Darrell Andersby, and I've written a poem I think might interest you."
"Oh? What kind of a poem is it?"
"Well, it's a modern poem, I guess. It's sort of hard to describe, but-well, I guess you might say it's an expression of my innermost subconscious feelings."
"Would you care to read me a verse or two?"
"Thank you, I would. Well, the title is The Oneirocritic and the Periwinkle."
"Sounds good. Go ahead."
"'Oh, pochard, portentous, like leaf and lodestar-Fly manward, to nephelinite rock, in nescience _ '"
"I like the first two lines very much! They capture a person's interest."
'Thank you. "Pandanus, pandanus, pandanus The margay is gone, but howks the inaudible _' "
"Very good!"
"'Incarnadine the color, inchoate, meridian- The messuage, comatose, down, down and down-'"
''Wonderful! I think the poem gets even better as it goes along! I'm anxious to hear more."
"'Columella and grub hoe, up, up and up-'" _
"A nice change of pace!"
"'Disillusive and exstipulate, but extramun- dane-Oh, Hyades, Hyades, Hyades _,,,
"Hold it just a second, Mr. .Andersby. I think it might add strength if right before that you'd include a line-something about-let's see _ Maybe something like: 'Lithia water, literati, over, over and over.'" ,
"Say, I like that! Let me write it down. Now, then, these are the next lines I have: 'Moldwarp, octennial, a frock coat and =gonfalon- The kraits and the mallow leaf _' "

Let's Face Facts
I noticed first the clear, gray eyes
That looked both mischievous and wise;
The chin I saw, was resolute
He'd brook no nonsense in dispute;
The cheekbones made their own admission: Here was a man of some position;
The level mouth, the close-hung ears
Bespoke contempt of doubts 'and fears;
With effort I left off this raving
And lathered up and started shaving.

The very discs disc jockeys played
Because they got a lot to
Are those I would have gladly paid
Them generously not to.
