Smart Shoppers...
'Separates save money' says reader Flavia Stampa of Nantyderry, Mon.
Many readers have written to Suzanne Grey since we introduced our first smart shopper last month. Twenty-two-year old Flavia, a private secretary, wrote: "How do I score for smart shopping sense? I like matching separates because I get twice the wear and twice the value for my money." Here's her latest buy, a versatile two-piece -a bargain for any girl. Yes, Flavia certainly has shrewd fashion sense, say Fashion Editor Suzanna Grey
Check this line for crisp desk-side charm: a neat two-piece in fine shepherd's check worsted. This two-piece rates with Flavia for now and later wear.
Right, you see the waistcoat, split from its team-mate, giving plus appeal to her new spring shirtwaister dress. The waistcoat, Unlined, gives just that extra: dash of warmth which a cool cotton needs for that first fine spring day. For variation she'll pop the waistcoat -over her plain-coloured dresses- full, fluffy skirted styles, slim sheaths, or her favourite dark skirt worn with a white man-tailored shirt
A SMART SPRING TEAM-UP
The first spring day which tempts Flavia to go to lunch minus her overcoat will be the day to air her check team-mates together. As a two-piece this outfit teams up with a shelfful of simple shirts and blouses. And if the office radiator is turned full on the waistcoat can be unbuttoned, in Chanel style
The slim skirt will also partner every sweater Flavia owns-and here her fund of good leather belts comes to the fore. However, checks look "busy" so she will keep accessories down to a minimum: court shoes; satchel.bag; shortie gloves. Check two-piece by- Alexon, 41/2 guineas (about $13.50)?; shirtwaister by Susan Hart, price £3. 19s. 11d. (about $11.23)?.

The average price of a new home then was $12700. about 2.46 times the yearly average wage of $5162. Which was about 1.99 times the price of a new car $2600. Today?
