THE POPCORN SPECIAL
WE'VE got a new craze in the Wooden Spoon club, corn popping.
First, of course, you need some corn and a special popcorn maize is on the market now. It comes in plastic bags and you should be able to buy it at most grocers.
Then, either in a special corn popper or in a saucepan with a lid, you heat the corn until it blows up into heavenly crisp balloons and starts popping away like mad.
Here are instructions for popping corn in a saucepan and a popper.
I prophesy that gown-ups as well as children will enjoy eating the results. The simplest way to serve it is hot, with plenty of melted butter and a good sprinkling of .salt. tuB there are whole lot of ways and it's great fun at parties.
Popping corn in a saucepan: Follow these instructions carefully or you'll get a popcorn in your eye!
Choose a saucepan with a well fitting lid. Pour into it sufficient olive oil or melted butter to just cover the bottom. Then heat oil or fat until really hot, and sprinkle in a single layer of corn. Replace the lid.
Keep one hand firmly on lid and shake saucepan two inches above strong heat. The corn will quickly start to pop in the hot fat. As soon as all popping has stopped, remove from heat and lift lid.
Don't lift lid until popping has finished.
Popping corn in a popper: Pull back popper lid and just cover bottom with a thin layer of corn. Replace lid.
Hold popper a few inches away from strong heat and shake until all the corn is popped. Pull back the lid and tip the corn into bowl.
Pep up your diet with the latest craze and try these quickies says RUTH MORGAN

Cheese Savouries; Pop the corn and put in a deep bowl. Grate some Cheddar cheese and mix with a little salt. Pour melted butter over the corn, then sprinkle with the grated cheese. Serve at once.
Waffle Style; serve the Popped corn for breakfast in small bowls. Whilst still hot, pour over melted butter and syrup. Serve at once.
