Sugar Cookies
Friends coming in for the evening? Be sure you have plenty of these cookies to nibble as you talk! Make them with Stork Margarine, and spread with whatever toppings you fancy. A plateful on the table will turn an ordinary evening into a festive occasion!
Shortbread Ingredients
4 oz. (4 heaped tablespoons) plain flour & 2 oz. (2 heaped tablespoons) ground rice } or 6 oz . flour
4 oz. Stork Margarine
2 oz. (2 rounded tablespoons) castor sugar
Finely grated orange or lemon rind (optional)
Toppings
Jam, honey, lemon or orange curd, chocolate spread.
Decorations
Sliced jelly sweets, dragees, nuts, desiccated coconut, etc.
Sieve the flour and ground rice, if used; rub in the Stork, stir in sugar and grated rind, then knead and press together to form a ball. Roll out thinly, cut into fancy shapes with pastry cutters (rounds, diamonds, heart shapes, etc.). Place on a baking sheet, and bake for 20-25 minutes in a very moderate oven ( Regulo Mark 3: 335°F.) on the third shelf from the top. Cool on a wire tray. When cold coat with toppings and decorate as illustrated. Makes approximately 16 biscuits.
